2004er Riesling trocken (dry) „Magic Mountain“ Weingut Leitz, Rheingau, Germany
2004 Riesling trocken (dry), “Magic Mountain”, Weingut Leitz, Rheingau, Germany
Sheet lightning
Pale yellow in appearance with a nose of citrus fruit, pears, pineapple, melon, elderberry blossom and tarragon. Gently tangy, crisp and lush on the palate with a vivacious balance of fruit and acidity and a particularly enthralling range of minerality. Each sip is a revelation. It is vinified from hand-picked, stringently selected grapes from the best slopes of the world-famous Rüdesheimer Berg.
“Johannes Leitz is a shooting star in the Rheingau region… He had to assume responsibility at an early age and prove his worth in the steep vineyard. Through decades of experience he has learnt everything there is to know about his vines. When his father died in 1965 at the age of thirty-three, Johannes was just 14 months old. The small vineyard of 3 hectares was maintained as a secondary source of income. At the age of 22, after an apprenticeship training and qualifying as a craftsman, Johannes Leitz took control of the business, gradually enlarging it by purchasing the best plots of land around Rüdesheim such as in Schlossberg, Bischofsberg, Rottland and Roseneck. His wines are extremely nuanced in all variations of taste. In flavour, the Spätlese (late vintage) wines are mineral, finely creamy and delicate, the Crus are opulent and lush, while the dry Rieslings are vigorous, tonally pure and concentrated.
