2006 Vinya Laia Aniversari, Catalunya D.O., Albet i Noya, Penedès, Spain
Exotic Chocolate
Dense cherry red in the glass with dark core lightening up on the rim; powerful aromas of plums, a bit of coconut, vanilla and dark chocolate as well as a trace of violets and nutmeg. Smooth and full-bodied on the palate, elegant freshness, dark fruit (black currants) and spices. Very long, intensive aftertaste.
“When brothers Josep Maria and Antoni Albet i Noya took over operations in 1979 following the death of their father, they produced these grapes for large retailers. But both rapidly began bottling wine themselves. But above all they were one of the very first wineries in Spain to switch over to controlled organic viniculture. This brought them ridicule at that time. Yet the times have changed: Today Albet i Noya doesn’t just farm its own 70 hectares. Due to rapidly growing demand numerous grape suppliers were also motivated to switch over to organic farming methods… With annual production of 1.1 million bottles and export quota of 83 percent Albet i Noya is today one of the most internationally successful wine producers in Spain.” (Wine merchant Delinat)
