Black Power

2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, “Tukulu”, Papkuilsfontein Vineyard, Groenekloof Darling, South Africa

Very dark, nearly black ruby red in the glass with aromas of black currants, black cherries, turnip puree and dark wood. Fruity, dense and concentrated on the palate with the flavour of dark berries and plumbs as well as a hint of liquorice. The slight residual sweetness is well integrated into the strong acidity and the soft tannins give the wine a full body without being overly forceful. Long, fruity finish.

Papkuilsfontein Vineyard is a joint venture of Distell, one of South Africa’s leading wine and spirits producers (49%), a group of black investors (36%) and the Groenekloof Community Trust (15%). The name Tukulu refers to the ‘fertile red soil’ the vines are planted in. The wine carries the Fairtrade seal (www.fairtrade.net).
